What I have is from Barry and it is the original option codes from chrysler and not reprints that someone could make a mistake from.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

In '70 and '71  (maybe it changes for later years) 'J54' is the sport hood, it's right on my build sheet.  The hood insulation pad  is 'J55' and would not be on the fender tag, only the build sheet.

Seems the same as with my original '74 -- J55 is Sport Hood (on fender tag) and J55 (as per original window sticker) is "Undercoating and Hood Silencer Pad."

J54 is both items actually, just at diffrent times.

J54 became the code for the hood insulation pad in 1977 and the code continued until at least 1980.

It is a good example of why most online decoders suck, they do not recognize model year changes for stuff like this.  :2cents:

thanks for the info, you all are a great source.

took some time off for the new year, been hiding out in the garage. my dad was there when I bartered the deal for this car, he remembers the owner saying that he ordered as close as he could get to a RT but since Mopar didn't make one in 73 this is what he got. the rear end is a sure grip, he said it had 3.91 in it from mopar, but i was told that wasn't available in 73. anybody know ? the rear has never been messed with and i'll jack it up and turn the drive shaft, doesn't matter to much just like to know.

I look on the info that I have but unfortunately I can't find what your are asking :dunno:, I have on my 73 a D56 that shows 3.55 69-74..the code for  3.91 is a D57, I am sure some other member can provide you with the answer.

Special order on a fender tag will be coded as 'Y39'. I have only ever seen one E-body with that on it & that car was a '73 Challenger Ralley. That cars paint code was '999' also. Now I have to remember where I put it, the car was in a junkyard back in the 1990's.
