rear bumper filler panel.....need pics....
« on: January 23, 2008 - 10:45:41 AM »
I was wondering if anyone had a picture of the rear filler panel that is in between the body and the rear bumper? I am installing one on my car and I am not sure exactly where it goes. The new panel seems to be bowed out as the rear is straight across. Do I need to notch it? I would like to see it before I go cutting up a new panel. Thanks for any help.

I know '70's used a metal "filler" panel between the bumper and body, so I'd assume a '71 would have the same.  Unfortunately, all I have is a photo of my plastic protruding filler panel used on my '73 Chally.  If I'm remembering it correctly, it's about 7/8" wide and screws onto the rear taillight panel.  I went to snatch the one (legally..I had permission) from my neighbor's parts car, but it was already way too rusted to use.

Here are a couple. The panel should have a slight V to it.At the center should be the point but it is very slight.

The area at the second tail light hole from the driverside in the picture is a small dent so don't confuse the angle from my picture. Sorry about that, but from the passenger side shot you should be able to see what I mean.

1971 Challengers did not use a rear bumper filler piece.  The taillight housings were turned up or flaired out at the bottom, for lack of a better term.  This was to fill the gap so a filler piece did not have to be used.

I just want to thank everyone that replied. I purchased a Goodmark replacement rear filler for my 71 because I thought it came with one. I didn't remember seeing one on my car and when I bought it, the ad said 70-74. Anyone need this piece? I will sell it for $50 plus shipping, which is less than I bought it for.pm me or email me at nvmy74@comcast.net
