the main two differences is weight and strength.  Dana is heavier and stronger in the long run.  It is according to what you are running and if you have an automatic and stick.   :feedback:
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

They usually had the 8 3/4 behind them.  When the car was ordered it could have been upgraded to a Dana.  The 440-6 I had was an 8 3/4 also.  They are strong enough to hold up behind the 440-6.

the 440-6 autos had the 8 3/4  the 440-6 4-speed cars had the Dana.  the 8 3/4 will take serious power, but the Dana will take more for longer.

8 3/4 has a carrier that loads from the front of the housing. You can pull the center section out and rebuild it outside of the car. The Dana 60 has a rear cover plate and the ring gear/pinion loads from the rear. The 8 3/4 is a lot easier to change axle ratios, just drop in a different center section.

All RB 4 speed E bodies came equipped with a Dana 60 as mandatory. RB autos had 8 3/4's as standard equipment. You could pay the $$ and get a Dana 60 as an optional rear.

Dana 60's are pretty bullit proof, but on a street car that does not see a lot of track use with slicks, an 8 3/4 will hold up fine. The tires act as a fuse, too much torque applied and the tires will blow off before the rear grenades. Now apply some traction and torque levels above 500 lbs/ft or so...better invest in the Dana.

the 440-6 autos had the 8 3/4
Only if it came with the standard 3:23's. If it was ordered with an axle pkg it would have been a Dana.

also, with the 3.23's without the SG...you got a 22 inch radiator
