fuel or fire?

i was wondering why at wide open throttle theres a miss? maybe its too much or not enough fuel, or an electronic problem. only when i floor it though anything throttle before that it works great, any suggestions?

This is a BIG can of worms. Lack of fuel. Has the car been sitting long? Maybe crud in the system. Is the carb. in good shape? It could be electronic, as in old spark plug wires, an ignition module or coil that can't keep up. Is the timing set right?

Like I said, there are alot of ways this can go. Can you give us a little history of the engine. I'm sorry if i might have missed it elsewhere.

the timing is on,new coil,new distributor and cap new plugs and wires ,new fuel lines,fuel filter. on the other hand it does have an ancient thermoquad carb which ive never touched besides setting the idle.

get on ot for a few seconds & pull a few plugs , shut it off right away , , if they are white it is lean if not it could be a lot of things , from fuel problems to ign problems , have you checked float level ?

A lot of things that could be TQ related....never even rebuilt?.....if mine sits for 3 months it seems the accelerator pump drys out or at least the little line to the accelerator jets gets clogged with dry fuel.... any hard to start problems?

no problems with starting , runs fine until you floor it, weird thing is, it only acted like this before with the breather on, take it off and for some reason it would work fine, but now it does it all the time breather on or off.

I'm guessing the secondary air door needs some tuning...reacts to air flow..

SPRING ADJUSTMENT:

Eric can supply an invaluable tool for adjusting the secondary air-door

The air-door spring is located inside the carburettor, and is wrapped around the air-door shaft. Looking at the left side of the carburettor, the end of the air-door shaft is visible almost flush with the surface of the carb top cover. The shaft appears to ride in a slotted sleeve, and the end of the shaft itself is slotted. Spring tension is adjusted by turning the shaft itself. The slotted sleeve is actually the shaft lock. To adjust the spring tension, the lock is released by rotating it anti-clockwise, spring tension is then increased by rotating the shaft ANTI-clockwise, or decreased by rotating the shaft CLOCKWISE. When the desired tension is achieved, the shaft is locked by tightening the lock in a clockwise direction. Being spring loaded, of course, the shaft will attempt to spin itself fully clockwise whenever the lock is released. It is therefore necessary to hold the shaft in it's current position whenever the lock is released, or in the process of being locked or released. It's easiest to make these adjustments by using a screwdriver on the shaft, and the factory tool (or a copy of it) to release and tighten the lock whilst the screwdriver holds the shaft in place. It's difficult, but not impossible to just use two screwdrivers
