Help?
« on: February 24, 2004 - 07:59:17 PM »
OK, it's me again, If I were a mod my previous topics would be deleted, MODS help yourselfs.  ;)

I went to a tyre shop today as my wheels/tyres didn't have ANY I.D. on them (previous owner).

He said my stud pattern was Ford, he said they'll know what that means when ordering, he said there's only Chev and Ford style patterns and thats a Ford.
He said that my tyres I have on now are 245/15x8/60

I'm looking for cop wheels in that pattern.

15x8/245/60 Rear - Ford stud pattern
15x7/235/60 Front - Ford stud pattern

Does that sound/look correct?

How can I tell my "backspacing" etc?

I want to be 100% sure before I buy.  ;)

Or if someone could tell me those would fit my Challenger that would also be good.  :D

Thanks,
Carl

Mopar and Phord wheels do share a common lug
pattern of five on four and a half.

That means five holes spaced out four and a half inches

Butttttt

The center hole that the wheel mounts on top of the
brake must be the right size..

I can't believe that all dorf wheels have the same size
hole in the middle

One more note on wheels. The A-body lug pattern
throughout the '60 is five on four so don't buy those

Just thought of a couple of extra things

If your at the junkyard and you see some wheels that
you like use your measuring tape to find out which ones
will fit

for the lug pattern measure the space between the
far wall of one lug hole to the middle of the opposite one
4 1/2 inches for Mopar and Phord

the big hole in the middle should be at least 2 7/8 inches
to clear the brake hubs

By the way, you wanted to know if 15x8 wheels with 245/60 tires on the back and 15x7 wheels with 235/60 tires on the front would fit, and the short answer is "yes".

Measuring back spacing is easy.  This description comes from Drag Racing Online:

When it comes to ordering wheels the key question is, "What backspacing do you need?" To properly measure backspacing you need to take a straight piece of wood or aluminum that will reach across the diameter of the wheel. Lay this flat piece across the back of the rim and measure down to the hub of the wheel where it sits against the brake drum or rotor. Record this measurement and when you get ready to order the wheels be sure to ask the manufacturer if they measure from the outer edge (as I described) or if they measure from the inside where the bead of the tire seats. If it is the inside, just subtract the thickness of the wheel from your backspacing measurement. Just take your time and sketch out what you need before you call.

Even better, check out the tech article from DodgeCharger.net:

http://www.dodgecharger.net/tech/wheel/

this should answer all of your questions regarding wheel sizing.  Cheers!

Thanks GoFish, I found a chart on all the tire measurments at one of the sites who sell the Cop rims.

I'm over the moon as the money I was going to spend on getting Buckets, Console+Shifter and steering column plus shipping costs which is the worst part, that in total would have set me back around $3,000-USD!  :o
NOW half of that money will be going towards the engine and trans rebuild and my new set of mags!  ;D
Money is hard at the moment so I'm happy to get the running gear right, plus Bench seat and Column are cool IMO and are different in E-Bodys.  :D
