Trouble with my 318
« on: February 02, 2008 - 10:20:06 PM »
I have a 70 Challenger with a 318. I want to go with a bigger motor, but having trouble . I was searching the web and came across article that stated I could use the 340 from a Jeep Cherokee. Is this true? Help.

I don't think Jeep made a 340. Find a 360.  :dunno:

How big, small block? big block? budget? You could use one of the eighty million junkyard 360s that were in trucks/vans/cars for years and years if you so desired. A 70 318 isn't too shabby however, decent compression out of it still, can be put together pretty comparable to a 340.... :2thumbs:

Go with a 360 from a Dodge truck or van.  They are cheap and easy to find in any junkyard.   :2thumbs:

:clapping: You could always buy a stroker kit for the 318 and turn it into a 390.............  This would be a more feesable choice as you alredy own everthing bar the stroker kit to do it.  Would fool everyone who looks and you can tell them a half truth when they ask "what is it", "same 318 it always had". :misbehaving:

I would go with the 360 from a latemodel truck it bolts up to your trany, and mounts & makes good power  :burnout:

factory roller  :bananasmi  cam and if you can get all the stuff on the frount of the motor you could run one fanbelt instead of 3. :cooldancing:
