Seatbelt interlock
« on: February 29, 2008 - 07:59:44 AM »
I would like to have the seatbelt warning light and buzzer working.

Is it possibel to keep the light and buzzer working and have the car start without having to buckle the seat belts?

All I'll say is, I can't believe someone wants a buzzer.   :eek7:

Seriously, I don't see how this could work CUDA JAS.  How could the buzzer and light be functional, but let you start the car without the belts buckled? I know that was your question, but unless someone knows a trick I haven't heard of, I don't see your plan working.

Lemme see if I can think this thing through. We had a '74 Monaco with the ignition interrupt system & I was able to disable it by disconnecting the harness under the seats. I assume the harness went to the seat belt re-tractors as that is how the buzzer/light on my '73 works. This must be a normally closed switch in the seat belt re-tractors that gets opened when the belts are pulled up, when I got the Challey the owner had the belts pulled out & folded up to kill the noise. The added "kill box" under the hood on the '74's must be receiving a signal from the same system as the buzzer/light therefore disrupting the signal before the box receives it should disable the kill box. Looking at the diagram I will guess that the yellow/brown wire could be the culprit but some probing with a meter could tell your for sure.

It could be that the seat belt relay is double pole that keeps power from the yellow/brown wire if activated so jumping the grey to yellow brown there may be the solution.

Thanks guys,

Yeah, I thought it would be neat to have the light and buzzer working...just because...well, just because.  But the actual interlock function would be a pain.

It sounds like it would be easier just to bypass it entirely and live with it.

Funny thing is, while all the peices appear to be there and wired up, with the exception of the reset button, none of it works.

Any thoughts.

I figure if I am going to by pass it, I can take the relay off of the inner fender, and pull all of the wiring out!  I should just need to hook up the yellow wire from the ignition switch, to the starter relay, and the brown wire from the neutral saftery switch to the ground on the starter relay (just like on a 70).

Ok...well it looks like the only way to get the brake warning light to work is by usign the seatbelt interlock...so...the hell with it, I will wire it all in.

I have this thing about all the lights working in the dash...damn 74!!!!!!!!!!
