Mirror bolts
« on: February 05, 2008 - 04:20:17 PM »
What type/size of screws are used to hold the door mirrors into the inserts on the doors. Mine seem to be tight near the end of the travel and I do not want to strip the inserts.

I'm not sure what they are, but I bought mine on E-Bay, and they worked. I'd suspect R/T Specialties might be able to help you.

Do yourself a favor and chase the threads with a tap (10-24).  I didn't and when I forced it at the bottom of the hole, the insert starting spinning.
For the screw, we used an oval head stainless screw and turned down the head width so it would fit in the mirror base.

I picked up some stainless screws at my local Ace Harware that looked very similar & worked just fine. If I recall they are a finer thread than typical sheet metal..maybe machine thread.

These are the threaded inserts they screw into,

and these are the actual oval head machine screws

Cuda parts don't get much cheaper than that.
