Do you have to fully disassemble the trans to replace the front bearing

No, but you must be careful when pulling the input out. Watch the needle bearings inside the input shaft. They tend to go "Clink" down inside the trans when you aren't careful. You will need a press to press off the old bearing.

You need to tear all the way down to replace the REAR bearing though.

Awesome!!! So is it just a matter of pulling the bearing retainer and then gently pulling the input shaft? Anyone got some pics of this?

I used the above article to rebuild my 833. Should give you an idea of what is involved with your front bearing.

Actually no , the countershaft will not let the input shaft out , + there are 2 brg sizes , the larger Hemi & OD brg / 308 & the smaller 307 brg , if the brg retainer has an od 4.35 then the rear housing & main shaft have to be removed &  the input shaft has to be removed into the case & out of the side cover & you need to drop the countershaft . On the 308 brg you have to remove the countershaft pin & drop the shaft down onto the case & unless you have a dummy shaft to hold all the brgs in place you will have to repack all of those as well , & you still need the dummy shaft to do that , then the input shaft can be removed out the front , might as well buy a brg kit & do all the brgs , thrust washers, syncros & gaskets while you are in there .

Yeah, it's not that difficult to teardown an 833, however I didn't remove the countershaft. Find a GOOD set of (expanding) snap ring pliers if you don't already have one. :2cents:

I have a good set but I'm not sure I want to tackle this one.
