Black Plastic grills\screen in cowl area outside front window
« on: February 16, 2008 - 11:33:36 AM »
I'm finnaly putting my 73 cuda back together and noticed that I don't have any screw holes for my black grills to be screwed to the body. These are the two plastic black grills that sit at the bottom of the front window outside.  The person I bought the car from didn't install a new cowl(don't know if that is the correct term or not).  I was wondering if anyone has seen this before?  The holes for the grills to snap in are there but not the screw holes.  Assuming I have to drill new holes, what size hole is it, #8????

Thanks

Thanks for your reply, but I don't need the actual black grills.  I need to know if I'm suppose to drill the holes in the metal were the screws are suppose to screw in.  I just find it very interesting that there were no screw holes for attaching the grill.

My 70 Cuda has the screw on grilles but my 71 Challenger built 5-71 has the snap in plastic black grilles which are not held in place with screws.

I think 1970 ebody cowl screens were held in place with screws whereas 71 and later all were held in place with screens that had tabs and snapped into place in mating holes.

70/71 has screws. 72-74 has the snap in style. but as stated above a late build 71 had the snap in. but your 73 definitely gets the snap in.

Correct.  The 72 and up use snap in style.  There are extra square cut outs on the cowl around the openings that the tabs snap into.  The 70 does not have these square holes.  I am not sure if there is a cut over date for 71 when they went to snap in versus screws.
