What are these for?
« on: February 23, 2008 - 01:33:40 PM »
And can I cut them off?  I'm talking about the ear/horn that sweeps up near the mount.  Don't want any surprises when I try and put my new headers in.LOL

I haven't seen these on any K-frames  posted so I think I'm safe?

These would be right behind the motor mounts to the rear.  Sway bar would be attached to the LCA.  I can't really figure out what they are for. :banghead:

- All speculation by me here -
Maybe the K member is out of another car besides an E body? never seen that bracket on an E body k member. almost looks like it's to mount a heat shield or something - bizzare. Would be interesting to check a B body k member (like a 75 model year) maybe it has something to do with heat shielding for the catalytic converters. In the picture of the motor mount bracket, there is a part number it looks like. See if you can come up with any info  on it that way.

Well, I see them on Huskercuda's car in his resto thread.  I wonder what they are for.

I'd like to cut them off thinking they may be in the way of something later on.

Thanks Chryco, now I just need to figure out how to make it look decent.LOL  Then again a cutoff wheel and a grinder can do wonders, mixed with some black paint.

Why don't you just same yourself the mess and worry about it if/when they actually become in the way of something "later on?"

I mean unless you just feel the need to go cuttin' on your car!...

True, but it would be a shame to have to cut/grind/paint after I paint the engine bay and k-frame.  And install the steering box too.  This way I could cut and paint it all beforehand.

Tom

I won't cut too much just the horns, I haven't seen these on any earlier K-frames.
