Is this just bent???

  We removed the 7 1/4 rear yesterday, when we got the new 8 3/4 bolted in, this thing stood up 6'' or 8'' above the U Joints........
This came off a B or C body pig, are they different or is this just bent  at the bolt holes?
  It looks to me like I should just beat it with a big hammer so the bent section will run parrelel to that big flat surface on top..........
 Should I heat it to make the bending easier, or would that soften the steal???

That thing is bent.  You could cold straight it or heat it up, it will be plenty strong.  The difference between pinion snubbers between a,b,c etc. bodies is the length, they are all pretty much the same height.  There is a pad in front of the those bolts on the 8 3/4 that supports the snubber and the snubber should be resting on it when you are through bending.
