Keisler 5 spd tunnel mods
« on: February 16, 2008 - 01:03:41 PM »
We finally took the plunge and bought the Keisler 5 spd kit for the 71'.  What we are worried about is our car was an auto when we started restoring it, and we converted it to a 4-spd with the tunnel piece.  The keisler kit says we need to clearance another area of the tunnel on the passenger side?  Is this true or sometimes does it have to happen or what?  Because if we need to clearance that...either the new carpet needs to come up, or the tunnel gets friendly with a sledge hammer

I had to cut mine, it needed about 1/2 inch. I will say that if I was not running TTI headers (the headers hang very low for the 6.4) then I could have gotten away with out cutting.

Make sure you take lots of pics. Let me know if I should do the 5 or 4 speed swap in my auto.

My guess after installing the keisler kit in a factory 4-spd car is you will have to clearence the passenger side and possibly also the drivers side depending on what you have already done. I needed to raise the tail 3/4" above where it was without modifing the floor. The problem is that the Tremec is flat and wider on top and not rounded as the 833 is.

I have done the Keisler swap , we had to install the normal 4 spd tunnel to add room on the left side , no mods to the right side floor at all

on a 70 you have to give additional clearance to the passenger side of the hump, it comes with sheet metal so that you can patch it up.    I had to do it on mine.  no big whoop.
