Best suspension rebuild company(parts)
« on: July 15, 2008 - 02:57:40 PM »
We were going to run the alterkation on our challenger but determined we wanted a new challenger to go with the old one so we are cutting some cost so the alterkation is out.

Whats my best options for rebuilding the stock stuff its a 73 340 rallye car. We are looking for better handling and a lower stance. I've searched a little but can't come up with anything. What are good company's? is there tubular a-arms and coil overs i could run? Thank you in advance.

not sure why everyone wnats to dump the T bars so badly , any coil over suspension puts the stress onto the body where it is not designed to take the load so as long as you do not mind installing a roll cage or adding a triangular brace over the engine like a mustang to both shock towers & the firewall no prob .the only decent system is the Alter-K-tion
there is no reason why you cannot have a lower stance & better handling with the stock parts though , re-inforce the K frame lower control arms , add tubular uppers ofr more caster adjustment , use a larger diameter T bar & repalce the Ball Joints with Moog & use C body tierod ends & sleeves , replace all the bushings with either new rubber or stiffer poly & add better wheels & tires  , add the frim feel strg box  for better steering , add larger F & R sway bars , premium shocks & keep the leaf springs at a flat arc & you can get very close to 1 g cornering
there is also the CAP Tubular K frame that uses T bars & stronger lower control arms

Just Suspension makes those braces you weld to the LCA's, RMS makes good UCA's. Do the sway bars and new bushings like CP says. If you want a handler stay away from the Super Stock leafs. The AAR's and T/A racers used a mono leaf for the 70-71 seasons. I would look into what they used on the teams.
I have an Alter-k but have no beefs with the stock stuff. Torsion bar system were cutting edge tech that Mopar first utilized. It later became the standard for almost all auto makers. If it wasn't good then so many others would not have used t-bar systems.
That being said, since the technology was fairly new when e-bodies used it there are many refinements that can be made. A stock system isn't as dialed in as you can get it.
Doing some chasis strengthening will improve thing as well. sub-frame connectors, LCA strengthening, XV inner fender braces, XV radiator under-support and their engine compartment brace.
There is a front end rebuild package Energy Suspension or Just Suspension sells that is geard toward handlers.
