Your calculations sound correct. I think the tire and wheel calculator will help you with tire/wheel assembly sizes so you can measure adequately. Goody - got that link handy? Its JAVA based and helped me a lot fitting 315's on the rear of my car.

I don't know how you plan to drive the car but if you are going with a tall profile like a 50, 60, 0r 70 series, you may want more than .250 clearance on the spring.

depends on the sidewall height. If you have 'low'(er) profile tires, you can go with less clearance (1/2") due to less sidewall flex when cornering and such. If you go with a taller sidewall, the more it will flex, you'll need more clearance

I had 295/50/15 BF Goodrich on my Cuda with a 8 1/2 " wheel had about 1/2" clearance to the stock spring. Also a 3.91 gear in it , was not fun at highway speeds like 3400 rpm @ 52 mph not good. I changed that combo out in a hurry.
Went to a 275/60/15 tire and a 3.55 gear, much better. Now 2850 rpm @ 68 mph.... Little bit of a difference.
It all depends on what you what to do. Highway or around town&race track..

I tend to run my spring to tire clearances much tighter (1/4") than my wheel lip to tire clearances (1"). Reason being the springs move up and down with the tire. They do not pass each other unlike the wheel lip to tire clearances. Additionally when heavily side loaded, the middle of the tire where the spring runs does not deflect, only the bottom by the contact patch will move around.

I do try to get as much space as possible between the tire to wheel lip because the whole axle/spring assembly does tend to move some with heavy side loads, plus the suspension articulation runs the tire by that lip pretty fast some times. Combine that with a side load and a close clearance can lead to cut tires.

Haney - your car looks awesome but ......... looking at it is the reason I went with 275/60 on 8" Ramcharger steelies. Can't stand that high pitch squeal as the tires rub when cornering. But 295's definitely put more rubber to the road where it counts.
