Two Suspension Questions
« on: February 16, 2008 - 05:19:57 PM »
If there's one goos thing about being unemployed, it's that I'm getting ime to work on the car.

1) True or False - turning the tie rod adjuster sleeve so that the top of the sleeve rotates toward the front of the car increases toe-in.

2) Anybody have the torque spec for the nuts that attach the lower ball joints to the spindle?

Depends on if the tie rods are installed correctly.  The left handed thread should be inner tie rods.
If this is the case, turning them toward the frt of car would shorten the linkage and move the rear of the tire inward.  Front of tire would go out.

Good point. I was trying to figure out if the tie rods were going in or out, and after a long day in, out and under the car my eyes were crossing. I think I'll leave it until tomorrow.

Put another way, the service manual lists no torque spec for e-bodies. I find it hard to believe that there's not a spec for something as crucial as attaching the lower ball koint to the spindle.

D'oh! That'll teach me not to read carefully. Thanks, Katfish.
