What goes above a headliner?
« on: March 05, 2008 - 09:00:38 AM »
Does any type of insulation go above the headliner on a 73 Cuda? If so, what is it, and where can I get it?

IIRC, there was some sort of jute padding attached to the roof of my 70 Challenger.  When I restore the headliner, I'm going to put something like Dynamat on to help deaden any noise from the roof.  I remember driving around in the NW rain w/o any headliner on and it was very noisy.

Yup - I used Dynamat but think there was some other type of cheap insulation from the factory.

I've seen spray-on sound deadener in some auto parts stores. Does anyone know if that stuff works? I wouldn't mind spraying that stuff around the various cavities to make things a little quieter if it works. It could be used with regular insulation to make things even quieter.

Bought one as well when I did my headliner. originally it is just a light just type padding. The year one "kit" is just some pillow type white padding precut to fit.
Fairly cheap I recall, but not much to it and it would make excellent mice bedding. I'd vote dynamat or something similar if I did it again.

Do they make any insulation that repels mice?

:screwy:   The only insulation above my headliner was the stuffing from the rear seat that the mice brought up there.  :faint:

My 72 cuda had a jute type pad/insulation up there.  Found that out when the headliner stitching let loose on a seam as I was going down the road with the windows open - I was suddenly covered in the stuff.
