I'm so Pi$$ed right now!
« on: August 05, 2008 - 07:06:21 PM »
Finally hooked up my brake control unit on my new Dodge ram, pulled the car on the trailer, tested the brakes, everything works great ( did this Thursday night)  Drove my truck to the car was Saturday, then took the chally to clean it up. Sunday morning the check engine light is on in the truck and the forward gears are hesitating really bad, almost won't move.  Sunday night I drop it off at the local Dodge dealership with the details on the envelope for the night drop box, call them Monday morning and explain all the details to the service manager, he asked me where I bought the truck and I told him ( another local dodge dealer) he said he would look at it and call me back as soon as he was done.

He called me later that morning and said a solenoid pack was bad on the transmission, I  asked him when he would have it fixed and he said he would order the part and it would be there the next day, depending on what time he would either have it fixed Tuesday or early morning Wed. I told him, we were loading up Wed afternoon to head towards Ohio for the Nats and he assured me it would be done.

At 4:00 today a service girl called me and wanted to give me an update, she said the parts would be here in 3 days and that is the soonest she could get it fixed, I explained to her that I talked to the service manager on Monday and he said the parts would be the Tuesday, she said they couldn't get them until 3 more days from now because when they asked for them the location showed stock, but was now out.

I wass Pi$$ed at this point, as last year we had to skip the natswhen my wife broke her leg, now this! starting to think we are not meant to go.

Anyway I was out whern the dealership working on my truck called me, so I decided to go to the dealer I purchased the truck from, he found the solenoid at another dealer (had 3 of them) inh this same area and arranged for me to go pick up the part and take it to the dealer that was working on my truck, once we found this ll out my wife contacted Dodge to express our concerns as this dealership seemed ticked off that we had the nerve to take a truck to them when we didn't purchase it there!

Dodge called the dealership while my wife was still on the phone, all of a sudden the solenoid shows on UPS as being delivered first thing in the morning! wow how did that happen??????????

anyway if the solenoid doesn't come in the dealership I bought from said he would send someone over to get the part from the other local dealer and he would do whatever it takes to get me on the road by tommorrow evening as this is a relative easy installation.

I'm truly a dodge mopar guy, but this stuff makes you wonder how any car manufacturer can stay in business in today's economy with this kind of customer service.  Kudos for the dealership I purchased from, and for the repair center the truck is at now I will never purchase another part or have any service work done there again!

Hopefully I will see everyone in Ohio, if not, then the dealer service let me down.

Man, that bites.  :swear:I had a similar situation trying to get to Carlisle. I was trying to have a direct fit custom aluminum radiator made and shipped before I left and was promised I would have it 3 days prior to my leaving. At the last minute the company called and had an unexpected delay. Unlike your situation they bent over backwards to accomodate me and overnight expressed the radiator to me which arrived just 1 day before I was to leave. So I was lucky. I was on pins and needles until it arrived and I am sure you are in knots right now. :pullinghair: I surely hope things turn around for you and you get the solenoid installed in time. We'll just name it and claim it that they git-r dun and you go and have an AWESOME time!! :bananasmi

if it was on the chally I would throw it on the trailer and work on it when I got there, but without my truck I can't tow the chally. it is way to far to drive this car and it would cost me $$$$$$$$$ in gas the way it sucks it down.

I'm keeping the faith that my truck will be done tommorrow and we will be on our way.  Just think that it is really ****ty that every other question is where did you buy it, doesn't matter, you work for Dodge so you should service it without an attitude, like the guy that worked his ass off for me this afternoon at the dealership where I purchased said, I'm in service, I don't sell cars, so I really don't care where you bought it, it is my job to fix it.

:iagree: You've got every right to be upset. I'd buy that parts guy lunch!! He's got the right attitude. Sounds like the service Mgr needs an attitude adjustment. Just don't do it with a hammer!! :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:

I have yet to have a good experience with a dodge dealership.  I drive over 100 miles when I have to use a dealership.  The one in my town stinks.  They are kind of,     crappy.
The only dealership I have had good experiences with is a Pontiac dealership, again over 100 miles away. Won't use my local dealership.
Dealerships seem to have a real problem with how they look at our wallets and our time.

Hope you get it all worked out.  This will definitely be a Nats trip you will remember.

I hear you! I spent 3 months, and over 200 bucks in diagnostic fees alone, trying to get Dodge to diagnose and fix a plugged catalytic converter on my '04 Dodge SRT4.  :villagers:

But maybe I should thank them, since that's one of the major reasons I bought my Challenger for my daily driver. At least I can fix it when it breaks!

Hopefully the solenoid pack fixes the problem when they DO get it on there. If they don't have a good trans man at the dealership, they could just be "throwing parts at it".

don't be telling me that Tac, I sure hope not.  I guess I will know in a couple of hours though hopefully.  The service Guy at the dealership I bought the truck from said when he was calling to get one from another dealer locally that the part number had changed, been upgraded, he said he has known some to leak and that is why they changed the number and upgraded the part.  kinda sucks with only 2400 miles on this truck, guess If they do fix it and I get 500 miles from home and break down I will have to call the 800 number. If we can get close enough before it breaks We will drive thechally the rest of the way while they tow the truck.

Kid said this is external on the housing so they don't have to break the transmision apart and it is a quick fix? I don't really know much about it, so hope it really is a quick fix.

That is incorrect,it is on the back side of the VB inside the transmission.

Here is a pic of the solenoid pack by itself:

Here it is bolted to the back of the VB. (#4 in the pic, #6 is the VB)

Here is a description right from Chrysler tech site.
The transmission solenoid/TRS assembly is internal to the transmission and mounted on the valve body assembly . The assembly consists of six solenoids that control hydraulic pressure to the six friction elements (transmission clutches), and the torque converter clutch. The pressure control solenoid is located on the side of the solenoid/TRS assembly. The solenoid/TRS assembly also contains the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and five pressure switches that feed information to the TCM.

Just trying to make sure you can have yourself covered in case they mess with you.

Your first tip was when they asked where the truck was bought. We had a 96 Intrepid that we bought from a different city and I swear every time we had a problem the local dealer would always give us problems. The air conditioning was always marginal and we must have taken it to them four or five time during the time it was under warranty. AFTER the warranty was up I took and put my own gauges on it and it just needed a little R-134, Man was I pissed. You need to report that dealer. They get money from Chrysler for warranty work whether you bought the truck from them or not. I would get in the managers face. If they are a 5 star dealership they will not like it the bad press. They are just being chicken**** because you did not buy the truck from them boohoo.

Report them to Chrysler.  When the dealer starts losing service stars they will take notice.

I did get it fix, The truck was dropped off on Sunday, Monday morning I called and they said it was a solenoid pack, they ordered it ( you know this part) At 2:00 pm on Thursday we went up to the dealer as it was supposed to be done by 1:00 pm and we were running out of time, The service manager said after they replaced the EPCU it was giving them different codes, I arranged to go get my dad's truck so we could leave, then they cleared the CPU and it was running OK, I asked the tech that this was a tuff one huh, and his answer was Good luck! boy I felt confident at that point! but everything worked out and it was great time.
