Finally Getting Somewhere
« on: April 21, 2008 - 11:24:39 AM »
This weekend was the first nice weekend we have had, so I managed to get a few things done.
In the front of the car, I added the hood pins, repainted the grill and surrounds, installed the red bar in the grill, polished the stainless, added the fog lights and brackets, and painted the blackout on the core support.  The grill is a pain to get in and out.

In the middle of the car, I painted and installed the side gill rocker moldings.
In the rear of the car, I replaced the rear springs, and added the rear sway bar.  Finally  I bolted on the new rallyes. They are 245/60/15 on 7” rims for fronts and 275/60/15 on 8” rims for rears.

I even managed to go for a couple short rides.  The Espo springs are a huge improvement over the old ones.  The ride is much better than it ever was.  I ordered the +1 springs and it is a little higher than I expected.  If I had to do it over, I would get the stock height.

Before you yell about no pics, I will try to take some tonight and post them.

I didn't get a chance to take photos tonight, but I will post a few to compare the old stance with the new.

Yeah I mulled that over when I bought new ESPOs...went stock height and they were plenty high for me.  Recently dropped the rear an inch with lowering blocks and she looks just right.

Of course it is raining now, so I took a couple shots inside.  They are a little blurry, but show some of the progress I made.

I got the +1 also, way too high.  You can get a front hanger with 2nd hole to lower it.  I hate when you can see air between fender well and tire.

A little constructive criticism is always appreciated.  What color were the shocks originally?
I had better not tell my wife that the car is on the jackstands again because the shocks are the wrong color.  This thing is supposed to be my summertime driver, and nobody but the squirrels should ever see the shocks, but you are right- they would look better without the blue.  I still don't think she will understand.
I have to go back under anyway to replace the rear end brake lines with the new stainless ones.

I am pretty sure that replacing perfectly good brakelines with prettier ones, and repainting shock absorbers so they don't clash is an early sign of mental illness. :screwy:

Thats why I like this site- I feel less alone in my sickness!!! ;D

I see "NOS" being offered for sale that are matte black, about like your dif. If memory serves me correctly the originals on my '73 were dark metallic blue like Monroe's standard shock...
Black, White, Silver would look OK to me.
