I could spring for the $175 for new metal, or $25 for the vinyl stick-on for my wood grain rallye instrument cluster. I am about ready to try the vinyl, except I have this same nagging voice in the back of my head that happens whenever I think of hanging wallpaper. I've also heard the stick-on stuff doesn't stay stuck on. Any recommendations?

Although it is so cheap I am tempted to try it, the negative remarks from members here make me realize I am better off waiting and buying the whole thing. Just my  :2cents: but I would listen to that nagging voice, do it right the first time and be done with it. Good luck!

I did the stick on and I would not reccomend it. If you have the money just order a new one you are definitely better off.

Buy the metal for $175. There's no messing around with air bubbles.

I was going to go stick on and was planning on installing it with soapy water like a decal and then useing a small squeiggy(spelling) but opted out for the whole panel piece so I could get the wholepanel with  the chrome around the holes too

$175, wow, something cheaper for an e body verus b body.  That's a first.

For that price I would avoid the stick on.  Mine's bubbled as well and the fact that the sticker doesn't go around the edge of the gauges bugs me every time I get behind the wheel.  Most folks will have to look for it but it bugs the hell out of me.

Okay, I just want to play the devil's advocate  :villagers: .  Is there anyone out there that has had a good experience with the vinyl stick ons?  I bought a set from the Detroit something or other company a while back and put them on about 2 months ago, but the dash has not been put in the car, yet.  I admit the $25 vs $175.00 is what made me go this route, but if they are as bad as most people seem to say, then I would consider buying the new tins down the line.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

I have done 2 cars with vinyl and very good results. I would do it again. I made sure the panel was clean and applied the decal exactly as the instruction stated. I think I ended up using a hear dryer at the end to shrink it up a little.

My vinyl looked good for about 2 years but is starting to bubble on my Challenger now so I'm wanting to go with the new metal piece now.

I haven't done the Challenger, however I have applied vinyl to similar surfaces before. I always have made sure that the surface was clean, the temp. of the panel was warm, not hot, then carefully applying without stretching the vinyl. The finished products lasted many years inside the car.

I did the vinyl on my car and it looks great. Has been at least a year and no bubbling. However, the insets around the turn signals did release. I tried using contact cement but the vinyl didnt like it. I would do it again. Maybe apply a little heat and place a wooden dowel or other round object in the hole to get the vinyl to conform to the inside of the hole.
