Clutch Rod Angle

Just got my Z-bar hooked up today and have a question.  The clutch rod angle between by Z-bar and clutch fork is not 90 degrees (see pics).  It seems to work fine, but just wanted to check if this is normal (or not).  Thanks.

TS, I just finish mine the other day and the adjuster rod is straight in line with the fork.
Do you have a small block? If so you may need to get a different rod with a bigger offset.
I think the Z-Bars are a little different from each vendor..

No, I've got a big block.  Seems like the clutch fork is short or Z-bar is long.  What could be the problem?

I have seen them angled before , never caused a problem in the past , if it works ok I would leave it

The at rest position should be at a slight angle.  As the fork sweeps through its arc as the clutch is disengaged the angle staightens out.

It looks like your retaining clip is not fully attached and the adjusting nut is supposed to fit into the large washer.  When the clutch is disengaged the 1st couple of times, the washer will swedge the nut onto the rod and lock it.  This is why no lock nut is needed.

O.K. guys, I will not worry about it.  Thank you.   :thumbsup: I just slid the clip on to hold it until the angle issue was resolved so that will be fixed.  As far as the nut and steel washer goes, it's installed per the Mopar instructions in the kit. The steel washer has a small D-shaped hole that fits on the clutch rod.  There is no indentation on the washer for the nut to fit into...the nut just screws up to the washer.   :dunno:

TS, I used the steel half ball instead of the steel & rubber washers.
PG Classics has them kit $19.00..

the washer is D shaped so it will not rotate & change the adjustment dragging the nut with the rotating washer

vinb, the PG Classic set up looks very nice.  That's probably what I'll switched to the next time because it looks like a much better design.  I added a couple large washers to the ball stud on the drivers side to lessen the angle between the clutch rod and fork.  Minor improvement.  The setup seems to work so I'm moving on to other tasks on this project. ;D

It is hard to tell from the picture but the nut should have a small ridge that fits into the big washer on the Z-Bar side of the rubber grommet. Could be that the large washer needs to be flipped over 180 deg. Otherwise mine looks virtually the same.

Does anyone know the size of that nut? I was under the car and saw that I was missing it.

the ball was available through Mopar & was used on trucks but has been discoed
the nut is 3/8" fine thread
