5.7 hemi with 545rfe tranny swap
« on: April 28, 2008 - 08:04:09 PM »
Hello, new to this site...I have a 1970 Challenger Project Car (original 318 car).

I picked up a drivetrain from a 2007 300c complete with all sensors / wiring / computers / pedals and the complete dash.  I was wondering if anyone used this set-up and if so how did you go about wiring it.  Can I basically plug in everything as I removed it from the 300c or will I run into problems?!?!  Would you know if I need computer reprogramming (anti-theft) or is there an after market wiring harness that is worth while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what you ask does not have a simple 1,2,3 answer. Use the search function on this board and you will get some good info. Then you will know the right questions to ask. The short answer is yes you can plug EVERYTHING in and your car will act like it is a 300C. Problem is you can't plug everything in. You have to decide what is most important to you. Cost of installation, ease of installation, flexability of installation, etc.

First of all, welcome!

Second of all, you need to do a TON of research.  Its not just plug in and go.  Check out "Channeling a Cuda" in the resto section, doing what you seem to want to do.   :2thumbs:

Oops, see that gkring just answered.  I'm putting a 5.7 in a truck, is taking much longer than I figured, go figure.

Also the transmission out of the 300c will require you to remove the transmisison tunnel from the Challenger and basically fabricate a new piece.

You're better off using just the engine.  Get a wiring kit from XV.

I just bought the same motor this week.  I am going to be using the XVmotors kit and a 727 transmission.  If you look at the restoration section- scott "thedodgeboys" is doing this conversion and has come up with good solutions.

thanks for the input.  I have done quite abit of research before purchasing the package.  I am aware the the transmission tunnel has to be redone, but I like the idea of the overdrive.  I was debating between the t56 manual before I got the package.  as far as the xv kits they seem to swith to carb which I wanted to avoid.
