Help Need Carb recommendation
« on: May 26, 2008 - 08:16:51 AM »
Right now I have a Holley 4160 vaccum secondary   750 cfm. This carb is very finicky. As the weather changes the carb does also. I am looking for a carb that is basically a set and forget it carb.I want to stay around the 750 cfm and I am open to any makes just as long as they are reliable. This carb I have now has me frustrated , kinda reminds me of my old AMF Harley that I could adjust the carb at highway speeds.
  Thanks, Rick

As far as set it and forget it, I have had better luck with the Edelbrock carbs, some say you lose some tunability and performance to the Holley's but to each his own.  I have a Holley 770 CFM Street Avenger now and i'm very happy with it.  I'm running a Stroked SB.

Maybe you could look at the 800cfm Edelbrock carby as a choice.................... :2thumbs:

Well guys, from Chryco's message and from talking with my local mopar mechanic, I have decided not to give up on the Holley just yet. I am going to take my carb to  a buddy and he is going to refresh it and he told me he would tune it on his 440. I told him what the symptoms were and he told me a few problems that need to be addressed . I feel better about the Holley now. Thanks

Don't know what your build is but I run a 750 80508 with electric choke and it was just a bolt on.  I think I only changed out the secondary spring a couple of steps lighter.  It runs great...although some have told me that it is a little smalll.. but I am afraid to change now.
