No problem with the pump, took my newly purchased vacuumpump and sucked from the carb side of the fuelhose. After that he does the work himself.
I followed the instructions in the Don Taylor " how to rebuild Mopar small block" to get the distributor in right but will ofcourse check according
to your advice LAA66. Also I marked everything at disassembly and it looks to be ok.

Now I start to doubt my engine knowledge LAA66, TDC cylinder #1 is when the piston is in the highest position and
 both valves are closed?  :feedback:

Yes. You can rotate the crank a bit both ways to see if there is any movement in the #1 valves. If not that should be the correct TDC.

I learned a lot posting this thread, the distributor was 180° wrong although I was very careful putting the engine together.
Adjusted the valve lash according to the instructions here and engine started immediatly. thanks everybody  :2thumbs:
Again I see the importans of asking those "stupid" questions.

Some pictures of the newly started Cuda. I do have a problem with the steering after the change of sealings in the steeringbox
but I will open a thread in the right department.

I still don't get the engine to run good under 2000 RPM, I start to suspect that the cam got damaged at start-up with all my cranking.
How do I know if that's the case? Take it out and measure?  :'(

the engine should have a tick to it if a lobe went away , is the idle cicuit in the carb working or restricted, is the carb new or rebuilt , possibly the wrng gasket in the carb blocking the idle passages , have you removed the mixture screws & forced air or carb cleaner through the ports ?

No such thing as a stupid question when it can save you expensive damage, we all learn from others that is why this forum is so good, MOPAR people helping others.
