I've been having a couple problems with my 904 trans ever since rebuilding it. When I put it in reverse it engages really hard, it feels like it is slamming into gear. The same thing seems to happen when it shifts into 3rd. It is really harsh, I am worried about breaking something it shifts into 3rd so hard. I've also had a problem getting it to shift into 3rd, it seems to be delayed. I've played around with the kickdown but cant seem to get a balance where it shifts into 3rd decently without upshifting too soft and quickly in the other gears. Every once in awhile it almost seems to bind a little during the 2-3 shift. Its only done it twice, and it started recently. I have an automatic shifting valvebody from CRT and I have blocked off the accumulator and installed an orifice plug in the case. On top of that are kevlar bands, a 3.8 lever, a deep trans pan with a billet filter extension and a billet servo. I was leaning towards a possible front clutch issue, but dont understand what would cause it to slam like that. I measured endplay and clutch clearances when I built it, and airchecked everything. I'm starting to think it is a valve body problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd like to avoid yanking the trans again now that it is starting to warm up again after such a long winter!
