Does anybody have small block rear main seal install tips?
« on: May 24, 2008 - 11:11:45 PM »
I'm redoing the rms (again) as I hate leaks.  I don't know what the problem is but I really don't want to do this again.  :pullinghair:

I was looking at my ancient "How to Build Dodge/Plymouth Performance" book and it shows them sealing the main cap with  rubber cap seal inserts.   The pic shows them laying them down outside of the rear seal on the split face of the main cap.  I think it shows some grooves in the cap for these seals.  I don't remember seeing any grooves in the cap.  It almost looks like the grooves are for draining back any oil that gets past the rear main bearing???                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      It kind of goes against the grain to put silicone between the metal faces of the rear cap even on the outboard side.  Any ideas on this?

Yanked the engine today.... the rms is not leaking just the rear pan gasket.  I hate small block pan gaskets. :)
