400 stroker?
« on: May 08, 2008 - 07:59:32 PM »
I have a 400/727 sitting in my garage and was wondering what I would need to do to make my Challenger ready for a big block, it now has a 318 in it.  I have a mechanic that says he will build it to about 500 hp for me for pretty cheap.

Things off the top of my head (I'm sure others can add to this list...)

-bigger radiator
-thicker torsion bars
-reconfigure distributor wiring as BB dist is in front
-motor mounts?

You might get away with a 22" radiator. I'm assuming that is what you have, but if you have A.C., then you would need a 26".

Otherwise... I agree with Super Blue 72.   :grinyes: Some might go to a 3/8" fuel line, but I get by fine with the 5/16" and a Hi-Volume mechanical fuel pump.

So it wouldn't cost too much.  Just little things here and there.  I don't know, I'll have to price some stuff and see where it lands me.  It's either going to be this or the XV susp. upgrade.  Then later down the road maybe the other. :bananasmi

I guess it all depends what you want now.  Whether you want to carve corners or if you want more "umph" when you hit the gas.

You could go with the XV then do some mild mods to the 318 (if you haven't already) that may not cost too much $$$.  :dunno:

You need a radiator that will cool 500hp, and the engine mount ears. You will need to extend a couple wires for the temp sender and distributor wires. No need for torsion bars. The 318/3832bbl used the same bars. A B wedge in stock form is only about 100lbs heavier than a fully stock dressed LA V8. The /6 is heavier..

A four bbl throttle cable is longer than the 2.

Yeah, but they still work. Even with tall RB intakes. You just need the right throttle bracket. It's the kickdown that gets dicey.
