Any body run factory correct exhaust?
« on: May 10, 2008 - 10:20:21 PM »
I installed everything correct from exhaust manifolds to tips on my car. Mufflers and resonators. I have a comp ex275hl cam installed. It was lumpity with just the resonators on it and quite noisey. Now I can hardly hear my engine exhaust at all. When driving all I can hear is the 6pk carbs open up when I mash it.

It sounds like the old days when we used to flip the top half of the breather up to hear the carb when the 4 barrell kicked in. It sure sounds sweet.

But I can't really hear the exhaust exit.  Is your car the same way?  I sure like the quiet, and not down too much on power either. This being a street factory muscle car and not a street racer. It lets me go places where I would of been more nervous driving, like in town around the court house and police station.

removed a TTI 2.5 inch dual setup with Dynomax turbos and glasspack resonators,  and put in the Accurate Exhaust Ltd.  6bbl system this Spring.   factory style resonators and round can mufflers.    I need to put the TTI stuff on Craigslist.

I am very pleased with the Accurate Exhuast.     Still plenty of rumble at idle and at throttle without being overbearing.   I noticed my acceleration may have dropped a bit so I may stitch in an H pipe.

Just glad I can finally drive my Challenger without getting a daylong earache and setting off car alarms in every parking lot/garage.    :aarg:

Hi Alan,

On my daily beater 400 big block i have standard exhaust manifolds going through a twin 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with straight through mufflers.   It is loud and i am proud, has Mopar Purple 284 - 484 cam. :clapping:

I'm running the 6 pack kit on my cuda from accurate ltd and love it. It was the easiest kit to install.

Hooker Super Comps into an Accurate exhaust.  Nice sound without being obnoxious.

Thats cool Al, I am going to really consider using the factory style or factory setup past the headers. I have always liked a quieter exhaust. I like the rumble but feel the Flowmasters on my car have too much resonation and a bit too loud.

I have  a complete accurate exhaust on my 70 340 Cuda and it sounds great at idle and a nice sound when you mash the gas. It is still very nice to drive down the road as it is not real loud so I can hear the carburetor when I open it up.

I think I have factory style exhaust on my car, minus the 2 round mufflers by the gas tank.  Factory manifolds, 2" pipe to the rear, stock looking mufflers under the rear seats.  Stock 340 engine/cam.

At idle you can hear the exhaust, just enough to let you know it's not a stock 318 or something under the hood, not loud by any means but ironically when you get on the gas/rev it, it almost seems to quiet down.  Weird, eh?  :clueless:

I want to have a louder exhaust but for now I think it's good as I can start up the car and let it run at night without disturbing the neighbors who live close by.

Al,
I have an Accurate LTD exhaust system on my 71 Challenger R/T. BTW, nice system that fits well. I decided not to install the resonators (look like mufflers under the floor pan). The exhaust sounds nice. At idle, you can hear some rumble and at cruising speed it's not too loud.
I wouldn't be afraid to pull up next to a police station with my exhaust. I only wish the factory had made the pipes bigger. They are 2 1/4" pipes that neck down to 1 7/8 " out of the mufflers for the exhaust tips. I think a healthy big block (or even a 340) needs 2 1/2" pipes.

I bought the 440 6pk stock exhaust. It was 2 1/2 from the manifolds back to the resonators, then 2 1/4 over the axles to the mufflers, 2 1/8 exit the mufflers for the tips. I bought the wrong tips though, because they are 2" and I havent tacked them on yet. They just flop around inside the muffler right now. They were off a 340 70 cuda. I am going to have the muffler shop expand them out to fit the id of the mufflers. The system is quiet, but when you walk behind the car, you can here the cam hitting pretty good.  But quiet. My 6pk pipes were a different part number then the 440 4 barrel hp exhaust pipe that was stock on the ebodies. I didnt realize there was a difference in size untill I got the system and then looked it up. I guess hemi and 6pk system was a bit larger. I bought the same system for my black challenger with a 440 4 barrell and it was 2 inch all the way back.
