Need a 340 cam recommendation
« on: May 19, 2008 - 09:23:36 AM »
I'm getting ready to have my stock 1973 340 (4-speed) freshened. I'm on a pretty tight budget and not into racing, so I'm going to keep it pretty much all stock. It already has headers and an Edelbrock intake.

I do like a lopey cam sound, however, so I was wondering if anyone can recommend a cam/lifter/spring package that sounds good, but will not require other, more costly upgrades. How radical can I go?

I am sure someone here knows a modern cam spec better then the Purple Shaft, .484 lift, 284 duration. That is what I am running now after settling down on the engine rebuilds. I would suggest not going much higher on the lift then that though.

I would use a Engle or Lunati VooDoo grind , both will idle well & make great vacuum for power brakes & stilll make excellent power , I use a lot of the Engle K56-58 grind a similar VooDoo grind work great as well , Summit stocks the VooDoo line
