gas tank
« on: February 16, 2004 - 08:11:31 PM »
I got bored today and figured Id take off the gas tank, its was fairly simple with only a few gallons of gas.

the gas looks like coke,  ::) ??? gee that would be great going through a 400.00 carb, I think not.   anyways it is a little rusty inside, I think a sending unit is in the future, but has anyone cleaned there gas tankand coated it with anything work while, what are the 4 lines for and where can I get a new filler gasket on both ends ? oh and a new strap bolt. (it bent)

Im slowly removing a few things under the car and am going to clean it a little better.  I have not yet removed the gasket on the top of the tank but it looks solid and the area above the tank looks great. I will take some picture probably friday.................

Hey 1973, we just finished installing our tank.  You say the strap bolts were bent...those bolts are J bolts and are supposed to look like a "J" and hook into the hole.  Can you take a pic?

As far as the other stuff, there fairly easy to find.  Here's Jacks Auto Part's page with that stuff.  Oh, and they have those j bolts on this page too so you can compare them to yours.

I bent them, they are twisted a little from the excessive rust in the threads and a breaker bar.

Removed my tank also for cleaning/coating at the local radiator shop. The four lines at the front of the tank are vent lines and you should be able to find the filler neck to tank gromett as well as the trunk floor seal at the major resto parts suppliers. I ordered mine from Paddock. Also ordered Tank Tone, Pre Paint Prep and Chassis Black from Eastwood to make things look purrty after reinstalling the tank (and fuel lines).
