    "No more power loss due to fuel starvation

    Universal, gasoline, 250 gph, aluminum, -8 AN inlets and outlets, 1/4 in. NPT bypass, racing electric fuel pump

    These Comp Pump 250 Series electric fuel pumps are designed for racing applications needing a high volume and high pressure 12 V electric fuel pump. The 250 Series is externally bypassed and factory set to 16 psi. The special design of the pump housing allows some limited adjustment of the output pressure. These pumps feature a fully-machined housing and pump body as well as a high quality permanent magnet electric motor. The 250 Series must be used with a fuel pressure regulator due to the free flow rating in excess of 250 gph. An integral mounting bracket and -8 AN flare adapters are included for easy installation."

    Two possible problems I see.  One is the external bypass, and the other is that this thing draws over 10 amps, which may mean it's not intended for continuous use.  A couple issues to check in to.

    External bypass means return line is needed.  The duty cycle is not mentioned but those seem to be the only problems with that pump ;)

    Charger, may I ask, what is your motivation to use an electric pump? My Challenger works very well with a  $51 Carter Mechanical Strip pump. ???

    chargerSLOW is out of town for a few days so I'll answer.  He is running close to 600 HP and has been advised that his current 100 GPH electric pump won't keep up under times of hreavy load.  And he beleives he has seen signs of this occurring.

    My experience has shown that for continuous supply you will need approx 40gph / 100 hp you might get away with a little less but 40 is safe & leanng out an engine can distroy a piston in seconds ;)

    Thanks for responding. IMO electric pumps are a bit overated.
    I run a 527" hemi with a single 850 Dp. Race weight of 3780lbs. with full exhaust and running 275x60 BFG drag radials, the car has a best of 11.45 at 123. (if the math is right , this is around 600 Hp) This is using a 1/2" hardline going into a Carter Strip mechanical pump.    Now I did tap the fittings to 3/8" on the pump. 8)

    a lot of the fittings are restictive inside also & I often have to drill them out.
    My Duster was running 11.7 at 118mph & 3440 with me in the seat & I figured about 520hp gross & 420 rear wheel hp it used 2 qts / 1/4 mi pass
    Sounds like the mech pump youare using might work

    So how about the setup I have on my Cobra.....a good mechancial pump, Holley in my case, backed up by a good electrical with a switch on the dash.  It is usually off....until you know you're gonna get on it for an extended period of time...then you turn on the electrical as well.  Should that provide the capacity and conveinence Simon is looking for?

    we can try it but what if we have to buy 4 different setups to get it right, the Holley pro series mechanical says it flows 130+gph ???

    Would the capacity of a mechanical be added dierctly to the capacity of the electrical (if in series)?  Or do you think it is more complicated than this, and the sum of the whole is less than the parts?
