tv adjustment???????????
« on: May 25, 2008 - 08:31:53 PM »
i was getting a 500 rpm flare between 2nd and 3rd so the local hot rod shop adjusted my pressures, they also tied my tv adjustment open or closed or something like that  :dunno:. now i definately don't have any flare but i need 4500 rpm before any shifting takes place wich doesn't bother me as much as it will also downshift from 3rd to 2nd at 4500 as well. i'm sure i don't have to tell you guys how interesting that can get. do i need a proper kickdown cable or just fine tuning on the pressures or tv?

sticking the TV open or shut is no way to fix anythin properly. Is this a stock transmission? Tact will be able to give you more in depth info..

it is a tci tranny but i bought this car with the tranny in it so i don't have any idea what's all done to it and if the previous owner had problems and done any changes, all i know is that it was supposed to have a manual valve body........... it doesn't and the only other thing i can tell you is that it's a slushbox!

So there is no rod or linkage going to the trans from the carb now?  I would at least pick up a Lokar or similar set up quickly.  You will burn the trans up quickly without the proper line pressures.

No, but you would have to shift it all the time everytime.

i do anyway. thanks. i guess i need to decide how much money i want to dump into this tranny or say screw it and go for the 518 overdrive.
do you happen to know if the converter and valve body is the same on the 727's and 518's ? the reason i ask is i don't mind buying parts for this 727 if i can use them in the 518 i plan to install this winter.

Not sure on the converters.  Good luck.

There are a few good threads on the 518 going here somewhere.

Converters are the same as long as Lock Up and Non Lock Up are the same. VB is NOT the same.

I also would NOT take it back to the "hot rod shop" , wiring the TV lever back is no way to fix it. Go Lokar like said http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=LOK%2DKD%2D2727U&N=700+400015+4294851531+115&autoview=sku

i kinda thought so. is there any way to test a converter to see if it has ''extra'' slippage?
