Alternator Hookup Question
« on: June 01, 2008 - 06:57:30 PM »
I'm replacing a  Powermaster internally regulated alternator with a Powermaster 7419 (externally regulated) alternator and I have a question about the blue wire.  On the internally regulated alternator it was connected with a ring terminal to a terminal inside the alternator.  Where does it go on the new externally regulated alternator and where does the brown wire go?  I though the brown wire went to a terminal for the regulator.  The brown wire has a spade (female) slot.

Thanks,
Mike

the external reg alt needs 3 wires , the large black power wire , the blue 12 v feed wire to 1 field terminal & a second green wire back to the regulater on the firewall , the regulater also has a blue 12v feed wire to it , not sure why you have a brown wire at the alt unless it is the feed to the washer bottle on the inner fender

Here's my harness:

Here's the back of the old alternator:

So...
black = top (11:00 position on back of alternator)
green = 12:00 position
red = spade connection at 2:00 and ring connection at 4:00
blue = still gets connected to the terminal inside the alternator?

I think you're right about the brown wire and the washer bottle.  Good call!

Thanks, Mike

I still have a regulator on the firewall.  Does anyone have a good photo of the back of a regular alternator?
