Coil Hook Up

Well once again my new harness is not color matching the original wiring diagram.  I need to confirm the (+) and (-) hook up on the coil.  I currently have a solid blue wire hooked to the (+) and a gray/black and black/yellow wires on the (-).  Is this correct?  Thank you.

Yes, if that blue wire is coming straight from your ballast resistor, which I think it is.

You have a '71 factory engine WD that shows an ECU?  Take a look at the inverted "D" on the terminal it can only go on one way.

The new harness is suppose to be factory original, but the engine is not original and has been changed over to an electronic ignition.  The current coil does not accept the "D" terminal so I will have to drill it out.

Where did you get that harness? How much was it? Instead of unwrapping and going to a bunch of trouble remaking my harness I am thinking about just buying a new one.

The only place worth buying a new harness is from Year One.

Yes, this is an M&H harness sold by YearOne.  They are exclusive distributors for M&H Mopar wiring harnesses.  Overall they are very good quality and an exact match hookup wise.  The main engine harness does have some color coded wire issues (as compared to the manual I have) and the main interior harness does not have wiring for any assessories.  Because YearOne is an exclusive supplier (you can't even buy the Mopar harnessess from M&H directly) they are very expensive!  The main interior harness alone was like $500 18 months ago

I just started working a new job as an electrician apprentice and I was thinking that I might just take my old one out to work and make one using the old one as a blueprint. I am sure I can get the wire the same or similar colors but some of the connections would have to be generic as opposed to the nice rubber terminated ones on a new harness. New anything beats the heck out of the old crispy critter I have. I want to see your car next time I go to Albuquerque, it just looks so clean, and the color is definitely one of a kind.

If you can afford it, the M&H harnesses are about as easy as it gets for rewiring.  Some folks prefer to upgrade and improve the 70's era technology by fixing the factory weaknesses (replace glass fuses. more circuits, headlight wiring, etc) and that's cool.  If I wasn't an electrical idiot, I may have gone the Ron Francis or Painless route, but the M&H, for the most part, is going in great.  It's nice having fresh wire throughout the car    I hope to have the Challenger finished sometime Summer!

BTW...the Mopar Muscle Club of NM is having their annual show this Saturday at Meloy Dodge in Albuquerque.  Should be a great time and they are indicating a black SRT-8 Challenger will be there (Where's my checkbook!)

Asked my brother in law earlier this week if anything was going on at Melloy Dodge. He said he didnt hear of anything and then I confirmed tonight by checking the website of the club you mentioned. I am going to take my son and head on up in the morning to the mopar show. I am starting to get my brother in law motivated and he even has a passenger ribbed fender coming in for the car in my avatar. I hope its a good weekend of cars and some fun on the golf course as well    Thanks for the headsup on the car show
