UPS strikes again!
« on: December 04, 2001 - 06:11:37 PM »
I am redoing a 70 rt/se and have been buying parts for it. I scored some stuff on ebay, a nos se sail panel, se door chrome, and hood chrome. Well this evening the ups man shows up with two boxes looking like pretzels. I made the comment that they looked damaged and his reply was "what do you want me to do about it". Well I take them in and open them up. The sail panel looks like it was bent in half and the other box was worse. I call ups to file a claim and they say it's the shippers responsibility. At this point I've had enough, I reply you were the shipper and I am sure the seller didn't give it to you that way. Well she responds with I'll have someone call you tomorrow. Has this ever happened to yall? Did ups come thur? I paid for insurance on the se panel, how do I check if the seller really bought it? Sorry for being soo winded!

Welcome aboard!

Chryco Psycho and i have both had bad experiences with what we now call OOPS! (UPS)

My best suggestion is to go through the process of claim.
And maybe next time use another carrier. It's a coin toss, but just as finding a good mechanic...when you do, stick with em!

Sorry you had such fortune!

I think its funny that they can have "Signature Required" written all over the box, yet they leave it on the doorstep.
When I questioned them about this, they said, "Only if 'signature required' is requested specifically by the shipper."  Huh?! You mean, having "Signature Required" written all over the place isn't a clue?!

I have become a BIG fan of USPS priority mail service! ;D It's cheaper, faster, and I've never had anything damaged or lost shipping out or receiving. I won't use UPS unless I absolutely have to. ;)

A continuation from my earlier UPS post...er Oops post!

I am also on another forum, having to do with fitness. I ordered a video, which came USPS unharmed in about 10 days, then I ordered a book that they sent UPS, which came in 4 days also unharmed! I even had UPS re-direct it to my work address, after it was attempted to be delivered to my apartment while I was at work. I got it 10 am the next day!  8) I also add that these items came from California, I believe, to a small town in the Western Canadian Province of Alberta.

So, it is hard to say, really who is better.
What I tend to do is try each carrier, until I am satisfied with a particular one. They all have certain faults/workers who care as opposed to workers who don't!!!
Doesn't matter about company policy, humans are humans. It is a gamble! I'd file a complaint, try another carrier next time and go on.

I used to work for UPS. I ship stuff ups all the time from my new place of work, but because of my knowledge, I know how to pack stuff. The items that get handled the best and go through less package traffic on the conveyer belts is the Next Day Air.It may cost more, even quite a bit more, but it gives your pkg a better chance of surviving the trip in one piece. And just because a pkg has "Signature Required" written on the box means nothing. If the shipper did not pay for the service, it won't be done. I can't tell you how many Next Day Air envelopes I handled that had "Ground" stickers on them.
