Reverse Rod Interference
« on: June 08, 2008 - 01:11:33 AM »
My 73 Chally 4 speed has an interference with the reverse rod to the X-pipe on the exhaust. I see the 70 model rod is a different shape from the rest. Why was that great big sharp bend installed on the 71-74 rods anyway????? Can I simply cut a piece from the existing rod, join it together again by welding (with a sleeve over it for strength) and then heat and bend to clear the X-pipe????

I have done this exact same thing (without the sleeve) for the same reason.  Never worried about the strength because I do very little power shifting into reverse.
