Bluish Stains on Rear Bumper
« on: June 13, 2008 - 12:03:22 PM »
Does anyone know why I'm getting bluish stains above the tailpipes on my rear bumper?  It doesn't seem to be oil.  Unburned fuel?  I can post a pic later if it will help.

:clueless: Blue?  :clueless:  I'm curious about this too.  Unburnt fuel would leave like a flat black sort of stain on the bumpers I would think.

Any probability the chrome is turning on the bumpers?  I know heat does this to chrome but I doubt there is enough heat coming from the tailpipes to do this.  They are fairly new aren't they?  :clueless:

They're bluish/brownish stains.  They're on the valance above the tailpipes, too, so I don't think it's the chrome, although they were just re-chromed last year.

It's interesting that you said heat...the service manager at the Dodge dealer that did the top end said that the motor was probably running hotter with the new roller cam, springs, etc.  Anything can be done about that?

Here are a couple of pics:

My guess is carbon and exhaust deposits. I have to clean my bumpers and valance several times a season with a wax cleaner to get the carbon deposits off. It ususlly has a blueish brown look to it, and regular detal spray won't take it off.  Sometime in the cold months watch how the exhaust "rolls" up behind the car.  :2cents:

I get the bluish stains on the rear bumper above my tail pipes too. I always just assumed it was from heat.
