Your openions please

70 Challenger 440, 30 over, balanced, 509 DC cam, 3 angle valve job,Big tube headers, stock Six pack, orange box ignition, 4 speed, 4:10 Dana......  I've never run this car on an actual drag strip so I don't know how fast it is, but will this fall and I am hoping for  high 12 low 13........  I can't stand the look of the headers so I am thinking of going with stock exhaust manifolds and through the mufflers , what do you think am I realalistic in hoping for a high 12- low 13?

Are you are running stock heads?? Any port work?? As long as the engine is well tuned and you have a good set of slicks or drag radials and provided you hook up good that 440 with the 4:10 rear end should get you high 12's or low 13's I would think.

Stock 906 heads no port work, heavy springs that match the 509 cam,  no slicks yet but I do have traction bars ( I know your laughing TRACTION BARS),, eventually I will get 15 inch slicks mounted on 15X7 Ralleys.........

That is very similiar to what we have in a 70 Dart, except it is 10.5 - 11 compression and has a 727 with a 3500 stall.  It weighs 3000 lbs and goes mid to high 11s with open headers.

Good Luck at the track   :2thumbs:

I think with manifolds and that cam you will be disappointed. But a lot depends on the rest of the engine.  A stick car is not the easiest to drive well in the 1/4. I would expect with the headers and what I'd consider "the norm" for old school builds like that done in the 80s mid to high 13s might be doable. A 1/4 mile pass has a lot to do with everything else beyond the engine. race it and see.

the cam is a poor choice at any time but it is especially bad with manifolds , we could design a far better cam to give great performance & work far better with manifolds if you want to swap cams

OK I am back to reality, the Challenger has just been restarted for the first time since 1992 and money is always low and time availble to work on it is lower I think I should just concentrate on getting a trailer and going to the track with what I have and work from that point on........

But eventualy I will get to the point of finding a cam that works well with stock manifolds , so Chryco Psycho has a great Idea but that is some time down the road cause first I got to just get to trhe track.............

Thanks all great info  :2thumbs:.........
