What are you planning on putting them on? The 915s, although more expensive, are probably the better choice because of the closed chamber design.

The prices are REAL nice.  :grinyes:

I would feel better if they mentioned something about hardened valve seals, to deal with unleaded gas. Also, no mention of porting, so these would be stock heads, I assume.

I prefer the closed chamber heads for the combustion charicteristics , depends what the rest of the combo is though , with a big stroker you amy nto want that much compression

Purple cam, 750 DP Holley on a torquer intake, 1 3/4 headers and a standard bore and pistons.  The heads I have now are stock 346 heads.  This is a 4 speed street car.  I want to replace and/or upgrade the heads and valve train to maybe get a few more hp.  I don't want to go too overboard.  You know the law of diminishing returns.  I have basically zero engine knowledge so would appriciate any advice.  I'm going with StRoKers roller rockers so do you think the 516s would be a good choice or maybe some built 906s?  Basically i'd like to get the best head for my combo and keep it under a thousand bucks.  If I ever go to a stroker I would upgrade the heads anyway.

I agree with Chryco on the closed chamber design.
I would also make sure they have harden seats, or you will have to add a lead substitute everytime you put fuel in the tank. (a real pain on a long trip)

What type pistons do you have?  When at TDC, how far are they in the hole?

Stock flat top piston.  Stock block.  I'll measure when I get the old heads off.  How much room do you think I would need?  I remember there was some room.  Say I had the 516 or 915 closed chamber and the 1.7 Roller Rockers.  I just plan on using 93 octane pump gas.

Agian it depends on the piston , anything over 525 lift could get into piston to valve clearance problems unless the pistons are ntoched , typically the closed chamber heads will increase compression by approx 1 point but usually you can get away with that as the factory compression was never as high as advertized

I like the 516 heads also.  Maybe I'll just get an assortment and try them all.  Where did I put that wallet anyway?
