Spring pressure
« on: June 22, 2008 - 05:25:23 PM »
Should I be able to put the palm of my hand on my stock valve springs while installed and in the car an compress the springs?  I only weigh about 150#.  I'm told this means my springs are too weak.
I may be schizophrenic,
but at least I have each other

Seat pressure of a flat tappet cam is anywhere from 100 to 150lbs, so if you can push down that much force the valve will begin to open.  It isn't a good way to test, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong either.

:iagree: Definately test them with the right equipment before you go out a replacing parts unless doing so for a different reason.

stock springs are weak. And the stock cams are small, so they match. Dont create a problem where none exist...lol
