whats with bidder names "a***3" Etc...?

I see items get bid multiple times from these "undercover" looking names (m***0, a***4) . What gives??

New ebay thing that protects you, by preventing someone from directly contacting your bidders, to try to lure them to buy their product instead of yours.

As an example m***0 might be mikes1970 or a***4 could aarclone74.

thank you. i was wondering if they were just names created by the seller to bump up the price that he was getting.
