Pass strut rod "squeak"...Any worries?
« on: June 29, 2008 - 03:44:05 PM »
As I'm prepping for Carlisle, I have been going through the car checking for safety.
Brakes, suspension you guys get it.

I have no idea if this is just coincidental, or if it has a direct influence, but my
steering box seemed just a little loose. With plenty of adjustment left, I tightened it up.
With a nudge of the wheel, the tires follow the same path with no delay.
I then go for a ride only to get a tremendous squeaking up front!

I get back home, bobble the front end while under her and come up with the strut rod seems to be the culprit.

I have not rebuilt any other part of the front end, and the strut rod itself doesn't seem to be sloppy or moving excessively.

Is this something that is only annoying and not unsafe??

Thanks in advance for any input!

usually you can see if the rubber is badly deteriorated to the point where it is metal on metal , if the rubber seems OK just lube it
