More eBay crap.
« on: May 15, 2008 - 09:50:40 AM »
I read that next month, eBay is going to launch a new change is Australia, and the only payment method available will be by Paypal. They may be testing to go global with it.

Obviously, since they own Paypal, they are forcing people to use it to make money at both ends.

I feel this is a monopolistic practice, and the government should step in. This is totally wrong, and makes it clear that they really deserve the nickname greedybay.

You Aussies need to fight the up-front battle before it is instituted everywhere.

I dont use Paypal. Never will. So eBay will lose my business, and I will find another auction site.

As a buyer, I LOVE Paypal. It sure beats going to the post office at my lunch break for a money order. As a seller, I can understand it $ucking.  :grinyes: Thankfully, I hardly ever sell on E-Bay.

I personally think Paypal is fantastic and pay any item I can to a vendor/person who takes Paypal. Obviously, it's a lot safer than handing out my credit card. IMO, for those of us overseas, it's priceless. % fees or not, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind and ease of payment. I don't feel it's right however to "force" people into using it. Consumers should be able to choose when, how and what they pay with. :2cents:

Yes, I'm just talking about the forcing part. Especially since eBay owns Paypal.

Imagine if the electric company said they would only take payment via their own credit card, or if you went to Walmart and they said you could only pay with a Walmat card.

You're right this does stink like rotten eggs but like MEK said, as a buyer I love Pay Pal and as a seller I do too.   It makes life so much easier when it comes to paying your ebay fees, paying for shipping, and yuo don't have to wait for a buyer to make th etrip to the post office.

As far as it being monopolistic, yes it seems that way but it is nothing like the electric company.  Afterall, if you pick up a Mopar Collectors Guide, there are hundreds of people from whom you can purchase most everything to restore your car.  You don't have that kind of choice with your electricity.  Also, I'd say eBay is almost certainly directly responsible for a lot of the Repro parts that are available today versus 5-6 years ago.  They really helped manufacturers see how big the global market for this stuff is and helped justify the tooling and R&D necessary to recreate parts that have been discontiuned since 1985 or before.

:ebay:   ebay sent me an update the other day about something. I didn't read it properly and just deleted it, it was something about easier paying though. Maybe next time I will take the time to read it, but as they send me stuff all the time I get sick of reading it.   :villagers:

I like Paypal, both buying and selling. I used it to transfer a pile of dough when I bought my Challenger. It sure gave me peace of mind. I do however agree with Jeryst as I don't like the idea of forcing anyone to use it!!  :swear:I used to like using Ebay, but it seems that everytime I get adjusted to their format/rules, then they go and change them!! :pullinghair:
