727 Yoke seal replacement

My rear seal (part where driveshaft slides in) is leaking, FSM says to use "special" tools to remove and replace the seal.  Any advice on how to do this without the tools?

I use a screw driver or punch to knock it out and a big socket to install

Similiar deal as wheel bearing seal?  Just work slowly around with screwdriver to get it out?

similar deal just work around the seal , make sure you don`t scar inside where the seal sits

OK, I got it out.  But I don't feel too good about getting the new one seated.  There is very limited room to work, exhaust comes together right there with an H-pipe.

Any suggestions on getting it seated square with limited room?

big socket, short piece of pipe etc. and a hammer. and take your time of course

  or another way if you do not have a socket is to drill a hole through a piece of wood with the correct size hole saw and fit it around and over the seal to fit...................

  thats cool................ Someguys do not have that big of a socket in their tool box.

flywheel socket (2 1/8") for an RX-7 works pretty well if I remember right....

 

but I like the hole in some wood idea too, would be easier on the seal flange.

I've always used a stack of 4 old 4-speed syncro blocker rings duct taped together as a yoke seal driver (same stack for 20+ years now).

you can buy the sheet metal sockets for diff locknuts for cheap in the correct diameter , that is what I have used for years now

Got it together, here's the "tool" I made. Had to add the handle since the exhaust is very tight in this area.

  Well done old mate................ Now you have a spare dog bowl to feed the doggy with and it has its own carry handle.
