News - not car-related
« on: July 25, 2008 - 11:57:36 PM »
It's been a long time since I had anything good to report. The job search is ... less than stellar. With no spare money work on the car has been very slow after I finished work on the front suspension (which I had purchased parts for before being laid off).

Tonight I managed to sell a photograph at a local contest. The first really good thing I've had happen in quite a while. Yeah me  :bananasmi

Thanks, Dave. That's actually from my last visit to your neck of the woods (or at least closer to you than me): Marquette, Michigan.

I was thinking of you the other day HK and wondering how the job search is going. I am sorry it is not happening for you yet but I know there will be a great opportunity for you. Here is hoping you find what you are looking for soon!

Nice pic!

Sorry to hear that you still haven't found a job yet.  :(  Is there a job you you could do with your photography talent?  :clueless:  :dunno:

Marquette,  international paper company?  I work there once in a while  My grandfather had 2000 acres in copper harbor, but he has passed away. But I do get up there close to that area.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. My ego is pumped for another round

Nice pic!

I've been working on that, but for fine art photography it takes time to develop a business, several years. Wedding photography, sports photography, those kind of things can make some serious bucks, but a) they require different skillsets than I've developed for fine art, and b) some of them require some specialized and pricey equipment. For a couple of years I was taking pics at Summit Point, for instance, but to get really good sellable results I needed a lens that was in the $4000 range.

The same MArquette. The pic is the lighthouse on Lake Superior. It's supposed to be the most photographed structure in the Upper Peninsula. Copper Harbor and the Keewenau has some nice stuff as well. I've been putting together a backpackable large format photo system over the years and one day I plan to through-hike Pictured Rocks; that has some of the best landscapes I've ever seen.

Nice pic.  Look like one could just sit out in a rowboat and take a nice nap when fish aren't bitting.
