Alternator/Tac-- linked?

Got a good one for you guys. While checking spark plugs the other day, I accidently pulled one of the wires off the back of the alternator. Didn't know it until I was in town Friday at dusk and the lights didn't work so well. I had driven the car during the day and noticed the tac was working as it should. Reading about 2700 at 55mph, (it had been jumping all over the place and even during turn signals). When I turned the lights on I then really noticed the discharge needle was way to the left.....So I got home asap and parked her. Went over the wiring and discovered the unhooked wire. Hooked the wire back up and now it is really charging but...........the tac is again all over the place. Any thoughts???

Now that you narrowed it down a little, try a different Alternator and/or voltage regulator to see if the problem goes away. Make sure that you have a good ground on the regulator. Run a ground wire like Chrysler did right to it if you have to.

Make sure it has a solid connection at the coil negative, may have bumped it messing with the wires.

the regulator is causing voltage spikes which affect the tach , there is a close limit regulator available from Mopar Performance which may help
