New cam suggestions..
« on: July 23, 2008 - 11:13:27 PM »
Ok heres my question, I have a CompCam's Magnum Mechanical Roller in the 440. Cam grind # 308R-10
.575 lift intake and exhaust, 110 lobe seperation. I've had this cam in the car for a decent amount of time now I'm looking for an upgrade. I guess i should spill the parts box on what i have shoved in the Cuda, to maybe get a little better advice before I drive the ol'lady nutts buying cams. :biggrin

71 440 block - 500ci
906 heads ported to the max 2.14in 1.81ex
Holley street dominator intake
Holley 850cfm chokeless race double pumper w/ dual 50cc accelerator pumps
HarlandSharp 1.6 ratio roller rockers
Custom length pushrods from Crower (9.437 legnth 3/8.dia)
Double valve springs with dampener
CraneCams Posilock Titanium retainers with .60 added for extra spring height
Comp Roller lifters (cam matched)
Stainless steel valves both intake and exhaust
TRW forged flat top pistons 10.5:1 compression
Eagle I beam rods 6.760 length
Callies forged crank 4.150 stroke
Windage tray
 :faint:
~Now the tranny....
727
4600 stall
reverse manual valve body
built by my buddy Mags

Rear End
8 3/4
Strange axles
4.56 "Suregrip"

Well now that I just gave myself a major brainfart trying to dig through my box of receipts to remember what I put in the car... and how much  :money: I spent in the past 14 years. I hope someone can maybe point me in the right direction for Mopower. :ylsuper:

Keep the same set up, install a set of indy 440-1 heads , indy intake 1050 dom and 2" headers around 36" eaqual length headers, There are other things you could do, but this could get you as much as .8 to 1 sec more in ET

All that and only one sec?  WOW!  That is a lot of money for a normal guy to dump into some heads!!!  You can have those Indys for only a sec!!!  LOL!!!

1 second is a whole bunch. It would be easy to get even more if he stepped up from there and did port work, cam change and more compression. Just adding the heads will change his compression. He said it is street driven. Race engines are not 10.5/1 engines.

Alan,

I just figured jumping from Iron heads to 440-1's and only a second and all the money, man...  I guess I was looking for somthing more drastic like 2 seconds?  Also that is what I was thinking the same thing about the compression ratio, I was thinking 12-14 would be a good boost in power.  But not for pump gas...

Don you are looking at that wrong... once you have a estsablished "built" motor it takes more money to gain less of an ET

Yeah she's just a little ol street Cuda, not really a distance runner but for those little light to light attitude adjustments she does pretty good. :22yikes:

Well since its gonna take a little time to sink the cake into the heads and intake... and carb, lol Atleast I have the headers out of the way I forgot to put those up on my first post, Which are Hooker super comps 2" -3.5" collector. I dont mind dishing out the money, granted it may take me a little while to save up but if it ends up giving me a pema-grin... then its well worth it. IMO

As for what I'm looking for ..... Well drivabilty is nice... eerrr would be nice but I'm kinda hooked on trying to rip the fillings out of my poor passenger's teeth with just mashing the loud pedal. :burnout:  :22yikes:
Thankx for the advice

Also before I get the  :useless: I'll post up some pics. :bigshades:

Gotta love action shots!

:2thumbs:  Looked good, but you must be limited on intake and carb with that flat hood.  You get to try lots of things out. Also, if you buy raised port heads, those expensive hookers will not fit them. I like the steel -1 indy heads for the street. They are raised port tho.  Your car looks reaaly good now, I'd like to see it with a 6pk hood on it. yeah :jumping:
