Steering Column Help
« on: July 23, 2008 - 02:44:11 PM »
I have a 71 manual steering column that I am trying to swap shafts to a shorter power steering shaft. I have the wheel, can and turn signal removed. I also have the snap clip removed. For some reason it still feels like there is something holding the shaft in. Is there something else I missed?

Thanks

Dan

No need to replace the shaft. Not sure if all e-body columns are like this, but mine is telescopic so it can be adjusted to fit power or manual steering.

That really isn't the reason it telescopes - It is supposed to collapse on impact to keep it from impaling you! It is held togeather with two areas of plastic that are poured in to seal it tight. On impact, the plastic tabs break and allow the pieces to slide. The shafts really are different, but I suppose you could use it that way. I am sure that others will chime in with thoughts. BTW - are you going to be selling the manual steering connector?
