1/4 window splash shields?
« on: July 05, 2008 - 10:05:32 PM »
70 Cuda Convertible has been apart too long to remember. I have 2 thin black plastic shields, measuring about 5 inches long, by 2 and a half inches wide, one end square, the other end curved, and the entire unit has a slight bend across its width. I know they came from the quarter window assemblies. Does anyone know where they attach? Many Thanks!

I know exactly what you're talking about BUT I don't have my car handy to take a pic. Maybe this'll help, the square part has a channel that slides onto a lip on the inside sheet metal just behind the 1/4 window. The curve goes away from the glass. I "might" get my car back next week and if nobody posted a pic I'll do it then.

I've attached the splash shields to the edge of the large cutout for the quarter window access. As described the splash panels slipped onto the edge of the cutout and locked into place. Logically it appears that they can only go in one way and at only that one location. As they are located, it appears that they would shed any water that got past the edges of the quarter window glass and redirect it towards the outside quarter panel skin and the drains in the bottom of the car. Does this sound right? I've only got next week before the new top goes on the car and the interior panels go in to correct the situation if not. Thanks!

Gene, it sounds like you have it right, I think. Can you show some pics? I don't know why you're concerned about the top and panels being installed because I can remove those pieces from my car anytime. Unfortunatly I won't get it back from the shop until late this week. Hey, if mine come off with the top and panels in place could they be wrong on my car?

John,
Where I attached the shields is about half way down the the inside of the rear quarter, on the inside of the car about 12 inches up from the floor of the rear seats. In my case, once I put in the rear inside side panels on either side of the rear seat, I won't be able to get to the shields without again removing the seat and the side panels. What you seem to be saying is that I have them in the wrong location, and they should be up at the top of the inside sheet metal of the opening where the quarter window glass comes out when cranked up? I'm at home now and the car is at the shop until Monday morning or I'd run out and have a look at your suggested mounting location. I'll check on Monday and take the camera with me. I'm under the gun here as I think the car goes back to the customer on Friday, to get an exhaust and top put on.

I'm sorry, I think I am wrong. Its been awhile too since I had that part of my car apart and am having a hard time to remember also. I'll go to the shop Monday and if the car's not on the hoist I'll try and get some pics. At the least, I'll try and look to see if they're accessible with the panels on. Maybe another 'vert owner will chime in with their  :2cents:

Tony,
THANKS! I definitely have them in the wrong location! That will be corrected tomorrow morning about 2 minutes after I arrive at the shop.
Thanks again, guys!

There was a thread on these either here or on moparts a while back and if I remember, there was a vendor talking about repro-ing these things.  The thread had pictures of them front and back showing the part numbers.

I'd be interested if you could provide more details.  My car is missing one but I'd buy a set.  I think most convertibles are missing them and it would be nice to get a repo.
