what do you think about these and will they fit
« on: July 25, 2008 - 06:54:54 PM »
As everyone knows, maybe not all of you but some do, I just bought a 70 R/T that was restored in the eighty's.
In case you are wondering, yep it has color, chrome, gold and a real ugly set of wheels on it.  :walkaway:
I have been wondering what wheels should I buy and I was real undecided until I saw the pics posted of a 440-6 70 Challenger just bought by Daytona, that was the deciding factor.
Then I thought, this is a Good thing because I have a new set of tires and rims on my GTX that will not see the road for a long while. My question to you is, Can a 295x50x15 on a 8 or  8-1/2" rim fit under the rear of a 70 Challenger and 245x60x15 on the front or am I SOL and I need to change to a 275x60x15 tire?

here is my car and the pic of Daytona's Black Challenger with the rims I want to put under it.

I'm not saying this because I have them on my Cuda , but those Magnums look really good on a Black Challenger.

I don't think the 295/50s will fit if you have the stock rear suspension set up. 275/60s on an 8 inch rim fit real nice though. I think the 245/60s will work on the front.

I had 295/15's on my 70 'Cuda with 10" rims and they just touchced. Good thing this was back in the days of air shocks lol. I had a little more than an inch of play before spring contact on the inside so I say with the right offset and maybe rolling the fenderwell lip along with 8" rims would more than qualify. Heck with 8" rims you might not even need to roll the fenderwells although I bet things would be really snug. 295/15's to me look awesome and provide plenty of rubber to meet the road. I am going to try the same thing again this time around with my 71 Challenger and 8" rallye rims. I will get it done even if I have to get the offset shackles and relocate the springs. Good luck and I will be checking this thread to see other opinions and/or experiences.

When I had magnum 500s on my Challenger with 275/50's in the back, there wasnt much clearance to the leaf spring (less than an inch), and if anyone sat in the back the tires rubbed on the fender wells and you could see it on the sidewalls.    Always was nervous Id cut a sidewall.

Ask Daytona what size tires he has.

My 'Cuda had 295/50/15's on a 8 1/2" wheel, fit ok with about 3/4" clearance to the leaf spring.
I took them off because I wanted a taller tire so I went to a 275/60/15 on a 8" wheel...
